About College

To fulfill the local needs and promises of higher education, the Government of Uttar Pradesh established a large number of degree colleges in rural and backward areas. In this way a new college was established in the outskirts of the historical Kanpur city. This Government College was first and only Government Degree College, directly controlled and governed by the Uttar Pradesh Government, established in 1993 in a township known as Shivrajpur, in Kanpur Nagar district. Thanks must be given to a trust named as Ram Sahai Trust, named after a freedom Fighter Ram Sahai, who donated 11.6 acres land to UP Government. Thus the college is named after the Freedom fighter, social reformer and a local popular leader Ram Sahai being a government college and due to its discipline, adequate building, grand sport complex, neat-clean and green campus, teaching by well qualified teachers, fair examination system, Ram Sahai Government College has a leading position among the colleges affiliated to Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur. It has its distinguished image and credit in the university.

At present the college is sprawled over 12 acres of land. In the beginning the college was started with just four rooms in the premises of nearby intermediate college. At present there is a sprawling double storied building consisting of classrooms, library, Administrative block, girls common room, laboratories, cycle stand and various departments. A beautiful and large sport complex has been developed which has all the facilities including 400 mts. track. The sport complex comprises of foot ball ground, hand ball ground, volley ball and badminton court as well as indoor table tennis. The college journey started with only 30 students in 1993 , has around 2000 students in 2013-14, clearly depicts the success story of Ram Sahai Government College, Shivrajpur. The institution has permanent affiliation in Arts, Science and Commerce. The institution got another feather on its cap when the prestigious University Grants Commission recognizes the college under “2f and 12B” category in 2004 and institution is accredited by NAAC and “B” grade is awarded in 2012.
